Features of PPSU

Heat deflection temperature (after GF or CF filling): up to 207°C

Glass transition temperature: 220°C

Long-term service temperature: 180°C

Specific gravity / density: 1.32

A slightly amber coloured linear polymer. Stable to common acids, bases, salts, alcohols, aliphatic hydrocarbons, etc., except for strong polar solvents, concentrated nitric and sulphuric acids. Partially soluble in esters and ketones, aromatic hydrocarbons, soluble in halogenated hydrocarbons. Good rigidity and toughness, temperature and oxidation resistance, excellent creep resistance, resistance to corrosion by inorganic acids, alkalis and salt solutions, resistance to ionic radiation, non-toxic (no BPA), good insulation and self-extinguishing properties, easy to shape and process.

Polyphenylsulfone is an amorphous material with greater impact toughness, chemical stability and resistance to hydrolysis compared to PSU. Its continuous operating temperature is approximately 180°C. PSU long-term use temperature of 160°C and PPSU long-term use temperature of 180°C;

PPSU related properties and uses

PPSU is suitable for making heat-resistant parts, insulation parts, wear-resistant parts, instrumentation parts and medical device parts.

  • PPSU in the electrical and electronic industry is commonly used in the manufacture of integrated circuit boards, coil racks, contactors, sleeves, capacitive film, high-performance alkaline battery shell.
  • PPSU in household appliances used in microwave oven equipment, coffee heaters, wet ware, hair dryers, cloth steamers, beverage and food dispensers, diet tableware, water cups, milk bottles, etc.. It can also be used instead of non-ferrous metals for precision structural parts of clocks and watches, photocopiers, cameras, etc.
  • PPSU has passed the relevant specifications in the field of medicine and food in the United States, can replace stainless steel products. As PPSU is resistant to steam, hydrolysis, non-toxic, high temperature steam sterilisation, high transparency, good dimensional stability, etc., it can be used as surgical tool trays, sprayers, fluid controllers, heart valves, pacemakers, gas masks, dental trays, etc.

PPSU is a safe material, free of endocrine-disrupting carcinogenic chemicals (environmental hormone: bisphenol A) and is an excellent heat-resistant material, with a heat resistance of 207°C. It can be repeatedly boiled and steam sterilised. Excellent resistance to chemicals and acids and alkalis, it can withstand cleaning with normal chemicals and detergents without chemical changes. Lightweight and drop resistant, it is the best in terms of safety, temperature resistance, hydrolysis resistance and impact resistance.

The advantages and disadvantages of PPSU

· The advantages of PPSU:

(1) High strength and high stiffness.

(2) Very high toughness (also applicable to low temperature conditions).

(3) high heat resistance without deformation ability.

(4) very high chemical stability.

(5) High resistance to Roentgen and infrared rays.

(6) good sterilizability, can maintain excellent performance under high temperature 178℃ sterilization for a long time;

(7) non-toxic, does not contain bisphenol A.

· Disadvantages of PPSU:

Compared with PSU, PPSU molecular chain does not contain sub-isopropyl but contains a large number of biphenyl groups, and thus its heat resistance is more prominent, but the ether bond in the molecular chain can still provide a certain degree of flexibility, so that it can be used at a low temperature of -240 ℃. However, the rigidity of the PPSU molecular chain greatly exceeds that of PSU, and therefore… Its melt viscosity is higher and its melt flow is worse, making it more difficult to process.
